Formally IFIP is a non-governmental, non-profit umbrella organization for national societies working in the field of information processing. It was established in 1960 under the auspices of UNESCO as a result of the first World Computer Congress held in Paris in 1959.

German Advisory Council

The German Advisory Council (founded and run bei VDE-ITG and GI) organises and operates the local acitivities, interacts between local research & education community and the technical committees.
Meeting personally twice a year plus a consistant flow of information electronically, it is one of the anchors, IFIP needs to tie into local cultures, requirements and visions.
